John Manamela Musical Profile
John Manamela started his piano lesson at the age of 15 in his local church in the province of Limpopo. After matric he then decided music was his passion and what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. In 2002 he enrolled for a music course at FUBA, Johannesburg. He then went further to study at Tshwane University of Technology to study jazz under the mentorship of Roland Moses and has graduated with a diploma in music.
John has been actively involved in musical activities and has played in many occasions such as functions, weddings, choral competitions and concerts. He has been an accompanist for choirs for over ten years and has accompanied them during choral competitions such as Old Mutual National Choir Festival, church choir competitions, school choir competitions, inmates competitions, police music competitions and many more.
John`s style of playing is heavily influenced by classical music because of his long involvement and passion with this genre. His jazz studies with Roland Moses at TUT played a crucial role to help him find his own style between the two genres. So his repertoire ranges between classical music, jazz, gospel, opera and choral.
John has played in jazz ensembles and classical ensembles and can easily adapt between the two. In 2009 He was part of Richard Loring`s hit Musical, ‘NIGHTS OF MUSIC’ as a keyboardist. John regularly performs solo piano works usually at weddings, functions, house warming parties and many more social gatherings.
